The Inverse Course: Teaching by Unknowing

This talk was presented at the Harvard Graduate School of Education on May 3rd, 2025.

“What if the teacher doesn’t know more than the students, and that’s the point? Join Peter Limberg (of The Stoa) for a hybrid session at Harvard exploring “teaching by unknowing,” inspired by The Ignorant Schoolmaster. Instead of top-down instruction, this participatory experiment invites shared inquiry, intuitive knowing, and collective intelligence. In a time of systemic crisis and epistemic uncertainty, learning without a clear authority may be one of the most vital and radical practices we can cultivate.
