I know a method. we prototyped this at a gathering of somewhat open minded lefty activists.
1. start with a journalling prompt: what are some beliefs or opinions you hold, that you would not readily disclose, for fear of being ostracised by your tribe?
2. in small groups, discuss "how does it feel to admit you hold these heterodox ideas?"
3. discuss in the whole group, how do you notice the techniques of peer to peer censorship? who's interest does that serve? etc etc
we never asked people to disclose their personal heresies, but the gradually increasing group size built sufficient psychological safety, so by the end people were able to be surprisingly transparent with each other
also the framing of the workshop gave them permission and language to discuss topics that have a lot of pent up charge. I think everyone was relieved, and partially deprogrammed, and less programmable thereafter
