people always use this image to prove that women are super shallow and picky but i dont think that's exactly what's going on ime for most men, the formula for attraction is basically "does she meet some threshold for beauty and being nice to me?" reducing this, as apps do, to "is she pretty? y/n" doesnt make a difference here if the goal is just a first date. women, meanwhile, will date an ugly guy if he's funny, a short guy if he's rich, an asshole if he's tall, a weird loser if he's confident, etc. the formula for women's attraction is basically: sum up a guy's positive qualities and subtract his negative ones. apps bascially reduce women's formula to "handsome y/n?" when all the rest of the info is missing (yes there are context clues but these are rarely viscerally felt) the answer is almost always "no"

i wrote this bc i was thinking about spencer's quiz and how for me "would you accept a first date from this person if asked when single" is a "yes" more often than not, but "do you find this person attractive" is almost always a "no." most women are less willing to go on first dates than i've been (afaict bc i enjoy meeting new people to an unusual degree and i have very low risk aversion in this one specific context) and i think this explains all the "nos" https://x.com/spencrgreenberg/status/2086088645480497577?โ€ฆ

Are women pickier than men about who they would date (based on faces)? The conventional wisdom (in addition to the incel movement) says women are pickier. Below is my wild ride (with multiple twists and turns) using our recent viral attraction study to investigate the answer:๐Ÿงต

women have been looksmaxxing since time immemorial and i expect if looksmaxxing becomes a big trend among men we'll see this chart shift actually huh pretty likely we'll see this if people are mainly dating on the apps

@goblinodds I don't think looksmaxxing will materially affect this distribution. Perhaps unfortunately, hoe_math's attraction model seems like a good first approximation even though it looks conspiracy schizo at first glance
