Cassandra and I are starting an initiative we call the Society of Ancestors. The goal is to build a public-interest institution oriented around Ancestorism: helping people take meaningful responsibility for being upstream of diverse and abundant life throughout the cosmos by working on tractable problems that are not being adequately addressed by incumbent institutions. The kinds of work we are most interested in include speculative writing about futures worth living in, experiments in cultivating a healthier information commons, and research on the social, technical, and civic conditions that could help humanity become a flourishing interplanetary civilization.
